MAR2021 New dental facility in South Auckland officially open. Earlier this month, the University of Otago officially opened our brand new Auckland Dental Facility. This wonderful new facility ensures that graduates from Otago’s Dental School (ranked 33rd in the world) have even greater opportunities for employment post-graduation, easier access to professional development wherever they live in New Zealand, and importantly, the chance to make a real impact in a high needs community. This state of the art facility further cements Otago as a leader in dental education, research and professional practice.
New dental students will continue to start their studies in Dunedin but have the option of relocating to Auckland for their final year.
FEB2021 From Asia to Aotearoa – how a Korean/Kiwi upbringing moulded an academic star. Here and now, in 2021, Dr Choi is a model of success. She teaches in the Dental Technology programme and is rapidly making a name for herself as a researcher of note.
But 19 years ago Dr Choi was simply Joanne, a 15-year old girl with limited English who had just waved goodbye to her mother. Alone in New Zealand to complete high school, Joanne had to adapt to a completely different life. Joanne is certain her move to New Zealand, despite the initial language and culture challenges, has helped with her success. Read dr Choi’s full story here.
