Education in Australia for International Students

With more than 1,100 institutions and 22,000 courses to choose from, Australia offers you, the international student, a veritably diverse range of study options to choose from.

You can study at all levels of education :

* primary and secondary school
* vocational education and training (VET)
* English language courses
* higher education (including universities)

You would be pleased to know that Australia’s laws promote quality education and protection for international students.

The Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000  and the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2007 (National Code) provide nationally consistent standards for providers of education and training for international students.

As an international student on a student visa, we will only recommend for you to study at an institution and in a course that is registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). CRICOS registration guarantees that the course and the institution at which you study meet the high standards expected by international students. Contact us to discuss your aspirations, and we will recommend the most suitable institution and program to match your goals.

Along with the ESOS Act and National Code, there are also regulatory and quality assurance organisations for higher education and VET institutions. These government organisations are responsible for registration/re-registration of institutions and accreditation/re-accreditation of courses. These organisations are:

* Higher education – Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA)
* VET – Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)

So, with such care given for international students, you can be assured that in Australia you will have a high quality and rewarding study experience.

Entry Requirements for Australia

To be able to enter Australia, you will have to meet entry requirements specific for international students.  Contact us to guide through each one of these steps :

English language
Educational courses in Australia are taught in the English language.  Therefore, before you commence your academic program, you must have reached the required English language skills, depending on the institution and program you want to enrol in.  For this, you need evidence of your English language skills, which are measured by tests such as IELTS and TOEFL and PTE.

Academic qualifications
The academic requirements (including evidence of English language skills) you need will vary depending on the level of course you want to study. Institutions can have different entry requirements, so we will assess your existing qualifications, and advise you on whether you meet these requirements.  If you meet these requirements, we will apply on your behalf, and guide all the way until you have a Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) certificate.

Visa Requirements
To obtain your student visa, you will need to have your eCoE.  Additionally, you will need the following :
* meet the GTE requirements (Genuine Temporary Entrant)
* provide evidence of sufficient funds for airfares, tuition fees and living expenses
* meet health and character requirements
* have OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover)

Our counsellors are ready to guide you through all the above requirements, to make the process easier and less stressful, and maximise your chance of success in meeting the entry requirements.

Living in Australia while you study

Australia is among the happiest countries in the world (World Happiness Report 2019) and we have five of the 50 best cities in the world for students (QS Top University Rankings 2019), so you will be sure to enjoy your time here.

Living in Australia will be a new experience, probably very different to where you are coming from. This will be exciting, and there are support services in your institution as well as from other organisations to help make adjusting to life in Australia easier.

It pays to do some research and planning to help you have a safe and rewarding study experience, regardless of what type of study you will be doing in Australia. Important considerations and planning includes:

  • Arriving in Australia
